International quotes need more than a currency symbol

Separate the clinic’s currency catalogue, a plan’s selected currency and the reviewed amounts a patient will actually see.

What you’ll be able to do

A clear operational distinction between currency administration, plan repricing and patient delivery.

Start with three different questions

An international clinic needs to know which currencies it supports, which currency a particular plan uses and what happens to its amounts when that choice changes. These are related questions, but they are not the same setting.

Medquote keeps these apart. The clinic's currencies and exchange rates are managed on the Currencies page, which needs the permission to manage currencies (admins by default). A plan's currency is chosen in the plan itself by anyone who can edit that plan. A job title alone does not tell you what someone can change.

Changing currency can change the quote

Changing a plan's currency is more than swapping a symbol. Medquote recalculates each treatment-linked row from the catalogue or the chosen variant in the new currency, so a price typed by hand on such a row is replaced. Rows with no treatment link are converted using the exchange rates, and percentage discounts are recalculated.

On an approved plan, the change voids the approval, and the editor says so before it re-prices. Check the rows and the total before the plan goes back for signing.

Keep the patient on the reviewed version

When the pricing of an approved plan changes, the approval drops. The corrected plan needs a doctor's approval and a new Share with patient. Until then, the patient keeps seeing the total that was shared earlier.

An international handoff is clearer when staff check both the currency and version of the patient-visible proposal. Explain the change through the clinic’s communication route and give the patient an opportunity to ask questions.

Make the currency and amount easy to read

Patients may search for help or ask questions in their own words, such as a currency code or why the total changed. Answer with the specific plan: which currency it uses, which version they are looking at and what changed.

Dates, number formats and translated labels also affect how a quote is read. Whatever language the patient reads in, the currency code and the reviewed total should stay clear.

Questions & answers

Can every administrator change every currency setting?

Permissions decide. The Currencies page needs the permission to manage currencies; changing a plan's currency needs permission to edit that plan.

Does a currency change preserve every manual price?

No. A price typed by hand on a treatment-linked row is replaced by the catalogue price in the new currency. Check the quote after the change.

Manage currencies in your clinic

Sign in through your clinic’s workspace address, then open the clinic currency settings. Ask your clinic administrator for the workspace address or permission if needed.
